Hakuba can be reached relatively easily and fast by train, bus, car or taxi, not only from Tokyo, but also from the Nagoya and Kansai regions.
Below are explained the various travel options and approximate travel times from the main cities in Japan with useful links to transport service providers and time tables. With this information you should be able to plan your trip to Hakuba. We are always here to help if you need any further assistance.
If you arrive in Hakuba by train or bus, there are taxis available at the Hakuba Train Station and/or Happo Bus Terminal. The ride to our place takes about 5min or 20~30 min. on foot.
From Tokyo [1:30 hrs bullet] plus [1:10 hrs bus] or [4 ~ 5 hrs azusa]:
Take the "Asama Shinkansen" (bullet train) to Nagano city from Tokyo or Ueno station. Trains leave roughly every twenty minutes. When you arrive at Nagano station, take the "Alpico bus" (east exit, bus stop 26) to Hakuba.
or
Take the "Super Azusa" limited express on the "Chuo Line" from Shinjuku to Hakuba. Other "Azusa Trains" leave for Matsumoto roughly every hour. From Matsumoto, take the "Oito" local train to Hakuba.
From Nagoya [4 ~ 5 hrs]:
Take the "Shinano Limited express" bound for Nagano city. Change at Matsumoto for the "Super Azusa Limited express" (only 1 a day) or catch the "Oito" local train to Hakuba. Sometimes a transfer is also needed at Shinano-Omachi station.
From Osaka & Kyoto [5 ~ 6 hrs]:
Take the super express "Shinkansen" from Shin-Osaka to Nagoya. Then transfer to the "Shinano Limited express" to Matsumoto, where you can get on the “Azusa” or "Oito" local train to Hakuba (see also above from Nagoya).

From Tokyo [4:30 hrs]:
Take the "Alpico" bus bound for Hakuba from Shinjuku. The bus terminal can be reached from the west exit of Shinjuku station. Take the bus all the way to Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal.
From Narita/Haneda: Alpico Bus Narita | Alpico Bus Haneda | Nagano Snow Shuttle with drop-off/pick-up service at accommodation.
From Nagoya [5:30 hrs]:
Take the “Alpico” bus from Nagoya (Meitetsu Bus Center) to Matsumoto (Matsumoto Bus Terminal), where you can take the train to Hakuba (see By Train).
From Osaka & Kyoto [7:30 hrs]:
Take the “Alpico” bus from Osaka (Umeda) or Kyoto (Kyoto Sta.) to Matsumoto (Matsumoto Bus Terminal), where you can take the train to Hakuba (see By Train).

From Tokyo [4 hrs]:
Take the "Chuo Expressway" to the "Okaya J.C.T" and head towards Nagano on the "Nagano Expressway". Exit at the "Toyoshina Interchange" and follow Route 147 & 148 through Omachi and onto Hakuba.

Take the "Kanetsu Expressway" to the "Fujioka J.C.T" and head towards Nagano on the "Joshinetsu Expressway". Exit at the "Nagano Interchange" and follow the "Hakuba Nagano Olympic Road" (Route 19) to Hakuba.
From Nagoya [3:30 hrs]:
Take the "Chuo Expressway" to the "Okaya J.C.T" and head towards Nagano on the "Nagano Expressway". Exit at the "Toyoshina Interchange" and follow Route 147 & 148 through Omachi and onto Hakuba.
From Osaka & Kyoto [5:30 hrs]:
Take the "Meishin Expressway" to the "Komki J.C.T", head up the "Chuo Expressway" to the "Okaya J.C.T" and head towards Nagano on the "Nagano Expressway". Exit at the "Toyoshina Interchange" and follow Route 147 & 148 through Omachi and onto Hakuba.
When in Hakuba: Follow the Olympic road towards Mt. Happoone. Turn left at the traffic light just before 7Eleven. Follow this road for about 500m and then turn right towards Echoland until you see Cherry Pub on the left. There turn right and then at the third road turn right again. B&B Koyuki is the second building on the right. Our car park is conveniently located in front of our house and has got room for 3 cars.
Renting a Car in Japan: There are several car rental shops in Hakuba with Windy Car Rental being the closest (150m from us). An international driving license is required for driving in Japan.
Chuo Taxi offers door-to-door transport between 2 intl. airports (see below) and Hakuba. The jumbo taxi is a comfortable van or micro bus and can seat up to 8 resp. 15 passengers. You will need to book in advance (see link below). The driver will meet you at the arrival gate (extra charge, watch out for the Chuo Taxi sign with your name on it).
From Tokyo Narita [5 ~ 6 hrs]:
The one way fare for premium shared plan is approximately JPY 29,000 per person.
From Tokyo Haneda [5 ~ 6 hrs]:
The one way fare for shared plan is approximately JPY 21,500 per adult, JPY 8,000 for children (<12).
From Nagoya Airport (Chubu Centrair) [5 ~ 6 hrs]:
This service has been discontinued.
