Construction of new Holiday Home "Chalet Hinata".

Early spring we started clearing the forest for one of our new holiday rental cottages, a project I do with my brother and which will be available from winter 2015/16 on-wards. This has been a great experience for me and I am very pleased with the result so far. All involved did a great job and everything fell in to place nicely.

The goal is to build a comfortable, healthy and energy efficient house - with a focus on sustainability and respect towards the local environment - for many decades to enjoy. To achieve this goal we have used new materials which are not known yet in Hakuba. The walls & roof are insulated with wood fiber boards from Switzerland (pavatex), which perform very well in Hakuba's climate. The cavities will be filled with water based spray foam insulation. The triple glazed windows are from Germany and the red stuff you see in some of the photos is a breathable membrane to protect the walls & roof, which are also vented to reduce heat build up and remove moisture. Next week we will install the cladding and continue with the finishing of the interior.
